Some of these pictures will correlate to the Pioneer 1000 (SXS1000M3) too but most are showcasing the Pioneer 1000-5 (SXS1000M5).
2016 Pioneer 1000 / 1000-5 Interior Pictures
Pictured above is the Pioneer 1000 gauge cluster. Thankfully Honda didn’t throw their usual setup used on the Pioneer 500, Pioneer 700 / 700-4 and all ATVs in the 1000. There’s nothing wrong with them but they are a little “bland” granted they do offer more information that some comparable models. Pioneer 1000 models come with a multi-function LCD gauge cluster that displays fuel level, engine speed (rpm), vehicle speed, trip-meter, odometer, a clock, gear position and much more.
Here why have your transmission / drivetrain options that are selectable via the lever pictured. Honda has never offered a setup as diverse as they have on the Pioneer 1000 & 1000-5.
The Pioneer 1000-5’s Automatic DCT transmission features paddle shifting, six forward speeds plus reverse, three shift modes (automatic, manual and sport )and two gearing ranges (high and low). It can do all the shifting for you, as smooth and seamless as any automatic, but can also give you total control to shift yourself.
The glove box on the Pioneer 1000 / 1000-5 pictured above is substantially larger than the Pioneer 700 / 700-4.
Looking at this picture showing the paddle shifters and steering wheel in one shot really has me excited to drive the Pioneer 1000… The paddle Shifter setup on the Pioneer 500 made driving a slow SxS fun as it had you more involved than most UTV models on the market. Take the paddle shifter setup and pair it up with the DCT transmission putting 77 horsepower to the ground is going to make the Pioneer 1000 / 1000-5 a BLAST to drive!
Another feature many people are going to love is the tilt steering wheel feature on the Pioneer 1000 & 1000-5. I couldn’t tell you how many people made that comment over the years on the Honda Big Red (MUV700), Pioneer 700 (SXS700M2), Pioneer 700-4 (SXS700M4) and Pioneer 500 (SXS500M2). It’s those little creature comfort features that really make a big difference.
With the interior picture above inside the Pioneer 1000 it looks like we will have quite a bit more leg / foot room than what the 700 / 700-4 Pioneer had to offer. Myself at 6’2 made long rides rather difficult. Not that it couldn’t be done but I’m all for comfort in my old age haha.
It may just be me but I’m LOVING the LED headlight setup on the 2016 Pioneer 1000 EPS / 1000-5 Deluxe!
2016 Pioneer 1000-5 Frame / Suspension Pictures
Here we get down to the nitty-gritty. This is the 2016 Pioneer 1000-5 stripped down to its bare frame to show you her bones.
The load leveling rear suspension on the Pioneer 1000-5 is a feature that many are going to love and I foresee being an industry wide feature that is standard before long.
When you fill the two rear seats or put a bigger load into the Pioneer 1000-5’s bed, the rear suspension automatically senses the increase and adjusts the ride height to compensate. This maintains ground clearance and maximizes comfort when loaded.
The 2016 Pioneer 1000 engine in all of her glory. Honda hasn’t confirmed yet but we believe this twin-cylinder engine is from the 2016 Africa Twin / CRF1000L that will be hitting dealerships in the beginning of 2016.

What’s so special about the inner-workings on the new Pioneer 1000 / 1000-5 drivetrain? Here are some examples: The Pioneer 1000-5’s advanced, fully automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission senses how you’re riding, monitoring throttle position and input, engine RPM, vehicle speed and more. Relaxed drivers get smooth shifts and lower engine speed for a smoother, quieter ride. More sporting drivers get quicker shifts and higher engine speeds to maximize engine torque and power. Going downhill? The Pioneer 1000-5 stays in a lower gear for superior engine braking.
