– 2020 Motorcycle SNEAK PEEK: NEW 2020 Honda CBR1000RR Changes! –
We’re only months away from the highly anticipated 2020 CBR1000RR Fireblade launch from Honda… What have I been doing in preparation? Digging through patent documents! I think we might have stumbled across a small sneak-peek into some of the details on changes that Honda will be throwing at the CBR1000RR. We don’t have anything concrete when it comes to 2020 CBR1000RR engine performance specs, suspension etc but on the exterior and asehtetic side of things we have these new patent documents that show Honda is definitely working on aerodynamic tweaks. Tweaks to a machine that has remain unchanged since 2017 when Honda pulled the covers off this latest generation CBR1000RR, finally moving away from the analog world to where it could compete against the cream of the crop of current liter bikes.

Will we see these changes among others on the 2020 CBR1000RR or 2021 CBR1000RR? That’s the big-money question at the moment… Will this be the only change we see to the next CBR1000RR? I hope not! It’s doubtful. I don’t see them putting the time and effort into this and just calling it quits afterwards and then just saying “Oh look guys, instead of new colors for this year we’re throwing on these pretty winglets on the CBR1000RR for you!”. What do you guys think? Will this turn into the Ducati fiasco with winglets and everybody hating on them etc?
I’m all for function over form. If they are just there to look pretty and offer no real performance increase – you can leave them off in my opinion. But even then, it makes you think just how much of a difference could these make unless you’re racing on a professional level. Street riders, of course, well you would think, wouldn’t be able to tell a difference at all and even us track day guys too. Who knows though, maybe there’s some magic sauce and we’re all just blown away haha. Maybe it’s just marketing dollars to make them look more like race bikes. I’m skeptical but looking forward to seeing how this all pans out.
* Keep in mind, not all patent documents are 100% going to go into a production model etc. However, I have proven on multiple occasions over the years that they do hold a lot of weight and can come to fruition – just not always.
