  • 2021 Honda ATV Model ID / Code Key:
    • What does TRX420FE1M or TRX520FA7M mean?
      • TRX – Generic prefix for all Honda ATV models
      • 420 – 420 cc engine (this number will always be the engine size whether it be 250, 420, 680 etc)
      • T – Two Wheel Drive
      • F – Four Wheel Drive
      • A – Automatic
      • M – Manual Shift
      • E – Electric Shift
      • 1 – No Power Steering (EPS) with a Straight Axle
      • 2 – Power Steering (EPS) with a Straight Axle
      • 5 – No Power Steering (EPS) with IRS
      • 6 – Power Steering (EPS) with IRS
      • 7 – Deluxe (you’ll only see this on the Rubicon TRX520FA7 and discontinued TRX500FM7)
      • M – 2021 Model Year
      • DCT – Dual Clutch Transmission (Fully Automatic Transmission with Electric Shift option option to manually change gears via the ESP switch)
      • AT – Automatic (Fully Automatic Transmission with Electric Shift option to manually change gears via the ESP switch)(Honda used to use this more in their model names but has started to transition from showing the AT nameplate over to DCT)
      • EPS – Electric Power Steering
      • ESP – Electric Shift Program (You will only see this on automatic models to where you can change from automatic mode to change gears via the electric shift buttons)
      • ES – Electric Shift
      • IRS – Independent Rear Suspension
      • FourTrax – Honda uses this as a generic model name for all of their utility ATV models in the lineup. Some confuse FourTrax as a certain model from Honda or that it means 4×4 but that is not the case as even 2×4 models use FourTrax.
      • * If it doesn’t say ES, AT, DCT or Automatic in the name from Honda – it’s a manual foot-shift model (excluding the Rincon)

Now lets put the key above to use… Model EXAMPLE: TRX420FM1M

  • What is a TRX420FM1M? It is a 420 Rancher Four Wheel Drive and Manual Shift without EPS and is a 2021 year model. TRX = ATV / 420 = 420cc / F = Four Wheel Drive / M = Manual shift / 1 = No EPS and a straight axle / M = 2021.
  • What is a TRX420FA6M? It is a 420 Rancher Four Wheel Drive with a DCT Automatic Transmission, Independent Rear Suspension, Electric Power Steering and is a 2021 year model. TRX = ATV / 420 = 420cc / F = Four Wheel Drive / A = Automatic / 6 = IRS + EPS / M = 2021.

2021 Honda Rancher 420 Models

2021 Honda Rancher 420 ATV Model Lineup Review / Specs | TRX420 FourTrax 4x4

Honda continues to sell more multipurpose ATVs than any other manufacturer, thanks in large part to the FourTrax Rancher, which has long been a mainstay in the lineup. Whether getting work done on the farm or having fun on the trail, the Rancher is up to the task. Featuring eight different versions, the Rancher family offers the choice between Independent Rear Suspension or a swingarm-style rear end. Versions with Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission or Electric Shifting feature Honda’s reverse-engagement lever, which makes the shift into and out of reverse a hassle-free affair. For storing work or play essentials, the Rancher comes standard with a front utility box that can be reached from the riding position when parked, and they accept accessories from Honda’s Pro Connect system, which makes installing and removing luggage boxes a breeze.

Last year, Honda mixed it up with the Rancher model lineup bringing some model variations back from the dead so-to-say that have been previously discontinued. Example; The Rancher ES 2×4 (TRX420TE1) made a return as did the Rancher 4×4 EPS manual-shift model (TRX420FM2) and thankfully those changes carried through to 2021 as well.

2021 Honda TRX250X

2021 Honda TRX250X Sport ATV / Quad Review & Specs

Proving that sporty ATVs can be both approachable and fun, Honda’s reliable, user-friendly TRX250X is also affordable and off-road capable. The SportClutch eliminates concerns about stalling, but it can also be manually overridden when desired. The engine delivers smooth torque across the entire rev range, while the chassis combines agile cornering characteristics and predictable handling over a wide variety of terrain types. Suspension comprises an independent double-wishbone design in front and a single-shock swingarm setup in back, delivering a smooth ride even when tackling rough off-road obstacles. Up-and-coming riders will love the TRX250X’s usable nature, but the machine is still a ripper with a more experienced rider at the helm.

What did Honda change for 2021 on the TRX250X? They finally took away some of the more dull color schemes that they have been recycling for years now and mixed in new colors with new graphics too on their only sport ATV for 2021. This is the first time they’ve played around with more “girly” colors too on a larger model, after experimenting with pink on their TRX90X for the first time a few years ago. I’m glad to see Honda experimenting a little bit and giving all of us some color options to pick from!

Making shared experiences possible, the TRX90X has user-friendly features like a reliable, air-cooled four-stroke engine with an even spread of power, an electric starter and a no-clutch, four-speed transmission. Honda build quality means the riding won’t have to end any time soon, enabling young riders to build memories and skills that they’ll carry as they move on to larger machines—and future group rides.
