In January, we talked about the fact that Honda was working on a Talon 1000R and 1000X FOX Live Valve model to satisfy those people that wanted a 2-seater with that technology from the 2020 Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve but they may not have wanted that 4-seater sport model. It wasn’t official but we knew it was coming and then later in January, I updated you guys on Facebook that a big announcement from Honda was coming on February 1st, 2020 regarding new 2021 models. Well, that time has came and here’s the latest update with the first round of 2021 Honda side by side models:
February 1st, 2020 | On the eve of Team Honda Talon Factory Racing’s competition debut at King of the Hammers, Honda today unveiled two new Talon sport side-by-side models—the 2021 Talon 1000R FOX Live Valve and Talon 1000X FOX Live Valve. Important additions to the rapidly growing Talon family, the FOX Live Valve two-seat models transform the drive experience through intelligent electronic suspension that uses Honda’s proprietary software to automatically adjust to terrain and driving situations, providing optimal handling performance and comfort in varying conditions.
Focused on performance, speed and style, both Talon 1000 FOX Live Valve models also boast new colors and Launch Mode, an easy-to-engage system that kicks the ride off to with full-throttle acceleration from a dead stop. Sharing the same engine, frame and body as the entire two-seater Talon platform, the Talon 1000R FOX Live Valve uses the combination of high-tech FOX Live Valve technology and Honda’s 4+ Link rear suspension configuration to excel in situations where bump absorption and high-speed tracking are priority, while retaining comfort and versatility. In addition to the new FOX Live Valve Talon 1000X and 1000R two seaters introduced in February, Honda’s standard two-seaters return for 2021, in new colors. A fusion of Honda’s experience in two- and four wheel design and racing, the Talon two-seaters push the envelope of what is possible in a production sport side-by-side while also recognizing the widely ranging terrain across the country. Campaigned in the King of the Hammers by Honda Talon Factory Racing team drivers Christopher Polvoorde and Elliott Watson, the Talon 1000X and 1000R put performance first .

Sharing the same engine, frame and body as the two-seat 1000X, the Talon 1000R uses larger, 2.5-inch body FOX QS3 shocks; a 4+link rear-suspension system and longer travel (17.7 and 20.1 inches front and rear, respectively), which combine with the wider footprint to deliver superb handling when driving through rough terrain at higher speeds. Like all Talon models, the 1000R was designed in Ohio and built in South Carolina, and it boasts legendary Honda durability, quality and reliability.

Offered in a new Metallic Gray color, the Talon 1000X-4 is a four-seat sport side-by-side with a unique stadium rear-seating arrangement that places back passengers inboard and higher compared to the front seats, resulting in an engaging, social experience for everyone. The 1000X-4 has the same Fox Podium Quick Switch 3 shocks as the two-seat 1000X (allowing fast and simple three-position adjustment), except those at the rear have 2.5-inch bodies. Also shared from the two-seater are the 999cc Unicam engine, the Dual Clutch Transmission, i-4WD, Hill Start Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.

2021 Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve
Start with the Talon 1000X-4 platform, add semi-active electronic suspension developed in a collaboration between Honda, Fox and Bosch, and the result is the Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve—a flagship four-seat sport side-by-side that pushes the envelope in terms of technology and performance. The system, which features Normal and Sport suspension modes, crunches data from a multitude of sensors and adjusts all four shocks 16 times per second, result in an incredible ride and unmatched handling, with minimal body roll and stellar high-speed tracking in rough terrain. Front and rear travel are 14.4 and 15.0 inches, respectively, and all four shocks have 2.5-inch bodies. This model, which is now offered in Pearl White, also comes standard with electronic Launch Mode for lightning-quick, full-throttle acceleration off the line.

Another advantage is you have all of that extra seating but without having a long wheelbase like most other multi-seater 4+ person side by sides on the market. You have the same options to choose from in the Pioneer 1000-5 model lineup as well with a “Base Model”, Deluxe and Limited Edition models.

Versatility is the name of the game when it comes to the successful Pioneer 700. A midsize multipurpose side-by-side designed for work or play, the Pioneer 700 strikes a balance between size and capability, while still offering standout features to help get the job done. Two- and four-seat models are available in standard and Deluxe versions, the latter featuring a mix of eye catching and performance-enhancing features like painted plastic, aluminum wheels, Electric Power Steering (EPS) and color-matched suspension springs. The Deluxe versions also let drivers switch between automatic and manual shifting. For an added dose of flexibility, the four-seat models offer two- and four-seat configurations via Honda’s QuickFlip™ seating, which allows the two rear seats to fold into the bed so that owners can select between two-, three- or four-seat configurations.

The Pioneer 700-4 model lineup takes the Pioneer 700 from above and adds Honda’s exclusive QuickFlip system that lets you switch between seating arrangements for two, three or four people within a matter of seconds while still having your dump bed. Another advantage is you have all of that extra seating but without having a long wheelbase like most other 4-seater side by sides on the market. You have the same options to choose from in the Pioneer 700-4 model lineup that you did above too with a “Base Model” and a Deluxe if you would like to have EPS (Electric Power Steering) and the other added features that come on the Deluxe models.
The new 2021 Honda Pioneer 520 model that we’ve been discussing the new changes about has now officially been released! Here’s a quick overview of some of the new changes to the 2021 Pioneer 520 from Honda and I’ll be doing a deep dive on it shortly with even more info.
For all of you that wanted a Pioneer 500 with a dump bed, here it is but in the Pioneer 520! Measuring 25.9 inches x 38.7 inches by 9.8 inches, the tilt bed has D-ring anchors and cutouts to accept buckets, milk crates, wood dividers and even cups. The bed is also compatible with Honda’s extensive line of Pro-Connect accessories, including racks, cargo boxes, chainsaw mounts and more, all of which are simple to install and remove.
Compared to the Pioneer 500, the Pioneer 520 has a 43cc larger displacement, the largest in its class at 518cc, making it more capable for hauling loads or scrambling up steep ascents. Improvements were also made to the suspension, which is plusher and more comfortable.
“Since its 2015 introduction, Honda’s smallest multipurpose side-by-side has proven that impressive performance is possible even in a compact, nimble package,” said Lee Edmunds, Senior Manager of Powersports Marketing for American Honda. “For 2021, the Pioneer 520 features a larger engine and a dump bed, but it retains the 50-inch width and 73-inch wheelbase that have been so popular. Whether customers are looking for an entry-level side-by-side, stepping up from an ATV, or just seeking a vehicle that can work hard and have fun without taking up a lot of room, the Pioneer 520 should be at the top of their list.”
The 2021 Honda Pioneer 520 is scheduled for release in January and will be available in Honda Phantom Camo, Red, Olive and Reactor Blue. The MSRP is $9,499 for standard color options, and $10,099 for Honda Phantom Camo.
You only have (1) option in the Pioneer 520 model lineup, there is not a Deluxe etc but you do have a price difference on the Phantom Camo color option.
While the Pioneer 520 gets the headlines, Honda will also continue to offer the Pioneer 500 as a high-value option for customers who prioritize a good deal and don’t need the updates of the new side-by-side. The 2021 Pioneer 500 is identical to that of the 2020 and prior model years. Placing added emphasis on value, the Pioneer 500 will be available in Red, at a permanent price reduction of $8,499.
